If you did not receive a referral, please wait until after May 15 to register. **If your child has participated in this program in the past, please let another student have the opportunity. Thank you. Come explore your feelings in this interactive camp designed to help students learn about, manage and identify emotions. Students will engage in skill building, movement activities, community building and crafts to increase their feeling vocabulary and build skills to cope with emotions. A majority of the class will be held outside (weather permitting) please dress accordingly and apply sunscreen prior to arrival. Please bring a water bottle. Please register for the grade you will be entering next fall. April 1- May 15 registration is by referral only. Relate Counseling Center is a Community Based Mental Health Clinic serving the western suburbs. Relate also partners with the Eastern Carver school district to provide co-located mental health services in every elementary school. Permission Statement I understand that my child has an opportunity to participate in a therapeutic camp led by two therapists from Relate Counseling Center. For the purposes of this group, I give permission for school staff to share necessary information about my child with Relate staff, and for the Relate clinician to share necessary information about my child with the school staff.  I understand that this group is being funded through summer learning and is at no cost to me.

  • Child and Babysitting Safety

    Participants will learn the responsibilities of being a prepared, safe, responsible and professional babysitter. Topics include supervision, behavior guidance, proper feeding and diapering techniques, personal safety, basic first aid, medical emergencies, and fire safety. Dolls, bottles, and diaper supplies will be provided at class for hands-on participation. This class is developed by the American Safety and Health Institute and approved by the American Pediatrics Association. Class participants receive a certification card and a link to a downloadable handbook. Participants can bring a peanut free snack and beverage to class.
  • Head Start Algebra

    Learn the skills needed to have a successful year in Algebra 1. During this course, students will review last year's concepts, learn effective note-taking and study strategies for math success and will get a head start on this fall’s Algebra course. Excellent course to review Algebra content before heading into Geometry as well. Students will leave this course with a notebook of learned concepts organized in the manner taught in class so it can be used as reference throughout the school year. *This class may be paired with the Study Skills class immediately following it.   • Home Alone Safely

    This engaging class is taught with photos and visual aids. Participants will learn the responsibilities of being safe alone at home. Topics include basic first aid, fire safety, kitchen safety, internet safety, small and large emergencies, stranger danger, sibling arguments, and more. Class participants will receive a handout to review at home with parents.
  • Math Foundations

    This class teaches and reinforces the foundational math skills that must be known with automaticity for high math achievement going into middle and high school. By reviewing concepts like operations with positive/negative numbers, rounding, operations with fractions, factoring, identifying patterns, area/volume calculations, and geometry concepts on a regular basis, your student will avoid the "summer slump" and strengthen foundational math knowledge for future success.   • Study Skills

    Learn the study skills needed to have a successful school year. Your student will learn: how to set & reach academic goals, effective note-taking methods, strategies for retaining learning, reading comprehension strategies, how to increase focus and on-task behaviors, how to stay motivated during the school year, how to create great work habits and more. Please Note: There is a Head Start Algebra class immediately before this class for any student who wishes to do both.     All levels welcome. The {YEL!} Teach It!…Practice It!...Play It! method keeps chess students progressing with 60+ chess lessons and thousands of puzzles as well as guided games and an end-of-week in-class tournament. Battle summer brain drain...sign up today! Supervision between morning/afternoon camps over the lunch hour is not provided. A few things to remember when arriving for camp at the Family Learning Center: • Please enter at the Main Entrance (Door #1) and someone will be there to check your child into camp. If you arrive early and doors are locked (as the FLC is a secure building) please wait with your child in the entry way until camp time. • At the end of class, the students will meet parents at the Main Entrance for pick up. • Most times instructors must go directly to another location after class and are unable to stay late. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up at class end time.
