Looking for a fun and exciting way for your child to learn Chinese this summer? This interactive course is perfect for kids in grades 1–5 with little or no prior experience. Through hands-on activities, your child will learn basic vocabulary and simple sentences—all while having fun and staying engaged!
Students will also explore writing Chinese characters in a creative, kid-friendly way. We focus on building conversation skills from day one using games, songs, and role-playing, so learning feels like play, not work. Our age-appropriate lessons keep children engaged, confident, and excited to learn.
Sign up today and give your child a summer adventure in language learning!
A few things to remember when arriving for camp at the Family Learning Center:• Please enter at the Main Entrance (Door #1) and someone will be there to check your child into camp. If you arrive early and doors are locked (as the FLC is a secure building) please wait with your child in the entry way until camp time.• At the end of class, the students will meet parents at the Main Entrance for pick up.• Most times instructors must go directly to another location after class and are unable to stay late. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up at class end time.
Ni hao! My Name is Mei-Kuei Hjermstad, but my Chinese students address me as Xie Lao Shi. I have been teaching Chinese since 2001 in various settings: Community Education in Eastern Carver County Schools District, Saturday Chinese School, and as a private tutor. Introducing the Chinese language and culture to non-native speakers has always been my passion. I am honored that I have this opportunity to express my passion to teach your child my native language and culture this summer. During this 11-day course, your child will explore and learn about different themes in Chinese, such as numbers, fruit, animals, colors, etc., through various fun and exciting activities. My goals for this course are to spark your child’s curiosity and have them embrace the love of learning a new language, so that they would want to continue to learn this fascinating language in their life.
