Intro to Java Coding

Youth / S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) / Middle School S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) -
Winter/Spring 2025

Students will be introduced to object-oriented programming and elements of the Java language while learning to code their text-based RPG (Roleplaying Game). No programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with common tasks using a computer operating system (text-editing and understanding directory structures) and good keyboarding skills are required. 

Home Technical Requirements For all Classes:

  • Computer: PC (Windows XP or later) or Mac (OSX) with at least a 2GHz processor and 4GB or RAM.  Chrombooks and Tablets typically DO NOT WORK.
  • Internet: Broadband Internet
  • Webcam
  • Microphone & Speakers
  • ZOOM Installed on computers.  This class will not work on a district issued device.

Additional Technical Requirements:

  • Visual Studio Code
  • PC (Windows or MacBook), will not work on Chromebook, tablets, or phones
