Instructor

Matthew Potter

Matt Potter teaches 6th-8th grade band with District 112 at Chaska Middle School East. Matt has his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music education from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. Matt’s primary instruments are the saxophone and the piano, but Matt teaches lessons for all woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. In addition to teaching, Matt still frequently performs with two rock bands and at a church. Matt believes middle school music students should have the opportunities to perform, create and listen to many styles of music.

He has taught elementary, middle school, and high school band students in Minnesota, Iowa, and Michigan, and has worked as a graduate assistant helping music education majors and observing student teachers. He holds degrees in music education from the University of Minnesota and the University of Michigan and was named Teacher of the Year by the Minnesota Middle School Association in 2009. Mr. Prescott is currently the band instructor at Pioneer Ridge Middle School and is an assistant with the Chanhassen H.S. marching band. He has taught music in the Eastern Carver County Schools since 2002 and lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two sons.
