    Discover Fly Fishing

This small class will teach beginners the basics of fly-fishing. Topics include: Tackle (rod, reels, lines, leaders, flies), casting, knots, local fly fishing opportunities, safety, conservation and etiquette. Each student will leave class with their own fly rod and reel kit to keep! Session # 1 will consist of classroom-based conversation and learning at the Family Learning Center. For session # 2, we'll head to the lake and test our skills at Veteran’s Park in Chaska; plan to bring your Minnesota fishing license so you can use your new fly rod. If you don't have a current license, you’ll still be able to practice your casting skills. In case of severe weather on the second night, we will use Thursday, May 16th as a makeup date. Proceeds from this class will benefit youth fly fishing programs through River City Fly Fishing, a local non-profit organization!

When done properly, it exercises 80 percent of your muscles and improves your overall heart mind and body health. Get started this summer with this great outdoor activity as Carver County Park Staff teach you how to use the poles, a proper walking technique, and pole-walking locations you can explore. All pole equipment will be provided for class participants to use. Transportation to and from parks is not included.
