  • Adult Advanced Tennis League

    This class is for the more ADVANCED tennis player who can sustain a rally with medium to very fast paced shots (USTA NTRP rating of 3.5+). Each class will consist of approximately 1 hour of fun, live-ball tennis drills with lots of movement utilizing all the tennis strokes to help improve your tennis game. The remaining 30 minutes will consist of both singles and/or doubles match play. Due to the number of higher-level players that typically register, it is highly recommended you contact Jim Mason at jimhmason@comcast.net if you are unsure if you meet the recommended 3.5 NTRP rating for this class.     Are you seeking opportunities to practice speaking Spanish? If so, this is the class for you! Instructors will engage participants each week with real-life conversation scenarios to encourage chatting and conversation. Conversation topics include 'un poco de todo' a little of everything and everyday Spanish. In this dynamic and hands-on class, participants will practice useful Spanish vocabulary and conversation components that can be applied to the home, workplace, travel, leisure, etc. Start speaking Spanish today! *Applicable to new and returning Spanish conversation participants. *Basic computer experience and the ability to access ZOOM is required.   • Advanced Adult Tennis Drill

    This class is for the more ADVANCED tennis player who can sustain a rally with medium to fast paced shots. The class will consist of all live ball drills focusing on different shots and different areas of the court. Be prepared for lots of movement and high-energy drills. This class is a weekly signup and only those registered at the correct level will be able to participate in the drill. Confirmation must be received from Jim Mason and /or Community Education by the Friday before the drill in order to participate in the drill.     Come and learn the basics of tennis in a no pressure/fun environment. The participants in this class should be at the beginner level. Focus will be on proper grips and swing path while learning the forehand, backhand, volley and serve. Understanding of basic rules and scoring will also be taught. Each night will consist of approximately 1 hour of skill building and 30 minutes of singles and/or doubles match play.   • Beginner/Intermediate Adult Tennis League

    Come and learn the game of tennis and play matches against other beginner/intermediate adult tennis players. This class is perfect for the player with little or no tennis experience and those who play often at the intermediate level. Each night all participants will be grouped by ability level and each class will consist of around 1 hour of stroke development (forehand, backhand, volley, serve etc...) and around 30 minutes of practicing what you learned in a match setting. Both basic singles and doubles strategy will be taught in a friendly no-pressure environment.     Discover Fly Fishing

    This small class will teach beginners the basics of fly-fishing. Topics include: Tackle (rod, reels, lines, leaders, flies), casting, knots, local fly fishing opportunities, safety, conservation and etiquette. Each student will leave class with their own fly rod and reel kit to keep! Session # 1 will consist of classroom-based conversation and learning at the Family Learning Center. For session # 2, we'll head to the lake and test our skills at Veteran’s Park in Chaska; plan to bring your Minnesota fishing license so you can use your new fly rod. If you don't have a current license, you’ll still be able to practice your casting skills. In case of severe weather on the second night, we will use Thursday, May 16th as a makeup date. Proceeds from this class will benefit youth fly fishing programs through River City Fly Fishing, a local non-profit organization!

    If you've noticed hip/thigh/butt spread, you are not alone. We have become a nation of professional sitters, causing lower body muscles to weaken and sag. In this workshop, you will learn: my famous '10 Minute Miracle Exercise' series to strengthen lower body muscles quickly and, in the process, increase metabolism and bone density; decrease 2 inches of saddlebag area in 2 weeks; trim inches off lower body by getting rid of excess water weight; breathing technique to stimulate fat metabolism; acupressure points for lymph circulation and drainage. If you don't have time, money, or inclination to haul yourself to a gym, you will love these powerful and effective techniques. You will need a resistance band, tied in a loop for some of the exercises.

In this one-hour make-and-take class, we will have an open discussion about herbs, what to do with them and plant a full pot for your patio. It's low impact, fun to do, and easy to learn, making it an ideal form of exercise for anyone of any age. When done properly, it exercises 80 percent of your muscles and improves your overall heart mind and body health. Get started this summer with this great outdoor activity as Carver County Park Staff teach you how to use the poles, a proper walking technique, and pole-walking locations you can explore. All pole equipment will be provided for class participants to use. Transportation to and from parks is not included.

  • Posture & Osteoporosis Workshop: Building Better Bones (on-line)

    Have you ever caught sight of your reflection in a window or mirror to see that your head leads the way? Or noticed that your shoulders and upper back are too rounded forward? You'll learn simple techniques to improve posture and stand straighter. We'll do exercises to help flatten the upper back, un-round shoulders and flatten your midsection. Learn how to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and how to re-gain bone mass. We'll discuss the latest research findings on nutrition, minerals and trace minerals needed for bone health; foods that help and/or harm your bones and more. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will need a resistance band or tube for some of the exercises.
